Nettles are extremely high in calcium, chromium, magnesium and zinc, and high in
iron, cobalt, manganese, phosphorous, potassium, selenium, silica and  niacin, thiamine, Vitamin A & Vitamin C, but low in sodium.

Historically Nettles have been used to help support a healthy blood supply and circulation. Iron is needed for the production of red blood cells and haemoglobin. Vitamin C is an effective anti-oxidant, although this is not so essential for horses as they produce the enzyme, L-gluconolactone oxidase in their livers - which is responsible for turning glucose into Vitamin C. 

Nettle has been shown to have a number of anti-inflammatory constituents which act via more than one pathway in the body. This anti-inflammatory activity, hand-in-hand with nettle’s ability to reduce bleeding, has been applied to easing gastro-intestinal troubles, including inflammatory bowel disease.
