This is a soothing blend and has gained popularity as a great sleep oil for kids.  Use it topically on your horse before a show, or on their halter before loading on the truck.

Mix it with Balance and Vetiver for extremely jittery horses.

In order to understand how we can use equine aromatherapy to reduce stress in horses, we must first understand what stress is and how it manifests. Stress is not just a mental phenomenon that produces behavioural problems.  It is a physical response to perceived danger, whether the harm is an immediate danger, such as a predator, change of home, or something that upsets the body's healthy balance, such as confinement or inappropriate food.  The stress response is a physiological cascade, triggered by anything perceived as a threat - physical or emotional, real or imagined.

Essential oils work fast and Lavender Peace will help reduce stress and increase immune responsiveness, working simultaneously on body mind and spirit.

Essential oils are always used in a calm and gentle manner, you do not have to use a lot to see a reaction from your horse.

How to use essential oils for horses

Start by presenting the oil to your horse for inhalation only.  ONLY if your horse show positive interest in the oil, such as a willingness to continue inhalation of the oil and visible relaxation.

Gently massage one or two drops in a small clockwise circle to the following Endorphin release points to help your horse relax.  Jowls on both sides, in front of withers and over tip of ears.

Horses have a sophisticated sense of smell, therefore you will only need one or two drops endorphin release points.  Never force essential oils on your horse if they show aversion.  Some signs of aversion to an oil include waking away from the aroma, an aggressive emotional response, pacing, turning head away or showing respiratory distress.
